KUCHING: Sarawak reported 513 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths on Tuesday (May 25), along with a new community cluster in Miri.
The state disaster management committee said the Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Samarahan and Kuching districts accounted for 317 or 61.79% of the new cases.
Miri had the most cases with 94, followed by Bintulu (81), Sibu (49), Samarahan (48) and Kuching (45).
Another 22 districts recorded between one and 30 new cases each, taking the state s cumulative tally to 43,326 with 261 deaths.
The committee said the latest deaths included a 41-year-old man who was brought to the Miri Hospital on May 21 after being found unconscious at home. He passed away on May 21. A Covid-19 swab on the same day returned a positive result, the committee said in a statement, adding that the case had no comorbidities.
PETALING JAYA: Selangor recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 infections with 415 cases from the country’s total of 1,510.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 326 of the cases were detected from the existing clusters and close contact screenings.
“Sarawak had 296 new cases while 171 were recorded in Kelantan. With 1,510 new cases, the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country is 359,117.
“Of the new cases, 1,505 cases were locally transmitted while five were imported cases.
“A total of 1,248 people have recovered, bringing the cumulative discharge cases to 342,737, ” he said yesterday.
Dr Noor Hisham said the total number of active cases in the country stood at 15,059 cases.
PETALING JAYA: Nine new Covid-19 clusters were recorded on Saturday (April 10), says the Health Ministry.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said six of the nine clusters were linked to the workplace while the remaining three were from the community.
Johor recorded two new clusters known as the Jalan Kempas Satu cluster and the Jalan Padu Industri cluster.
Similarly, Selangor also recorded two new clusters; the Industri Jalan Kebun cluster and the Kampung Kelanang cluster.
Sarawak also detected two new clusters known as the Pujut Satu cluster, and the Jalan Kapitan cluster.
Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu each recorded one new cluster known as the Bandar Baru Kubang Kerian cluster, Jalan Tun Ismail cluster and the Kampung Tanjung, respectively.
KUCHING: Sarawak will remain under the conditional movement control order for two more weeks from April 13, says the state disaster management committee.
It said the decision to extend the conditional MCO was made after assessing the Covid-19 situation in the state, where the number of positive cases was still high. The conditional MCO will be extended from 12.01am on April 13 until 11.59pm on April 26, it said in a statement on Thursday (April 8).
The committee said Sarawak reported 211 new cases and one death on Thursday, taking the state s tally to 18,707 with 117 fatalities.
The latest fatality was an 83-year-old woman who died at Miri Hospital on April 7 after testing positive on March 28.
