KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 The Health Ministry reported 4,008 more Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total number of cases in Malaysia to 169,379. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of today’s cases, all but five were local transmissions. “Selangor remains the state with the highest number of daily cases with 1,391 today, followed by KL with 513, and Johor with 470,” he said in a statement.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,944 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 125,288. In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 165,371. ADVERTISEMENT There are 39,464 active cases with 238 patients being treated in intensive care and 96 requiring respiratory assistance. Meanwhile, the 14 deaths bring the number of fatalities to 619. The 14 deaths involved 12 Malaysians and two foreigners from Perak, Selangor, Labuan, Kedah, Kelantan and Sarawak. They were aged between 46 and 85. All had chronic illnesses.

The previous highs were registered this week on Thursday, 3,337, and on Tuesday, 3,309. In yesterday’s Covid-19 figures, there were also eight deaths, taking the death toll to 594. MAEPS hospital to start operating soon
