Flour Bluff ISD announced the winners of the district s elementary and secondary Teacher of the Year awards Thursday.
Fifth-grade teacher Jeana Banta from Flour Bluff Intermediate and math teacher Mary Keyes from Flour Bluff High School were surprised by FBISD administrators and members of the Teacher of the Year Selection Committee when they came to their classrooms to inform them they were selected.
Keyes has been in education for 35 years and started out as a paraprofessional. She has been a teacher for 25 years.
“I care about my students and do my best to bring out their best, Keyes said.

The process is a part of the Texas State Teacher of the Year program that honors outstanding educators.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â The Flour Bluff Independent School District has announced its teachers of the year.
Flour Bluff ISD Administrators and members of the Teacher of the Year Selection Committee surprised Jeana Banta and Mary Keyes as the teacher of the year and secondary teacher of the year, respectively.
Banta, in her 6th year of teaching 5th grade at Flour Bluff Intermediate, prioritizes connecting with her students.
âIt is extremely important for me to know my students,â said Banta. âI try to know their needs in and out of the classroom and that builds that relationship and develops that communication.â

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Amos P. Godby High School teacher Althea Valle has been named the 2020-2021 Leon County Schools Teacher of the Year.
She was surprised with the honor by Superintendent Rocky Hanna, joined by other administrative staff members, on Thursday morning.
Valle has been a teacher at Godby for the past nine years and a teacher for 19 years, with 15 of those years spent in Leon County Schools. Currently, she teaches English 1-4 through ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) and Developing Language ESOL classes.
As an immigrant, Valle knows first-hand what it is like to adapt to a different culture and learn a new language.
