STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) - In a split decision Wednesday night, the Augusta County Board of Supervisors voted to raise personal property taxes. It will help fund firefighters and employee raises as part of Wednesday nightâs budget approval.
But, Supervisors also shared sentiments at different points about the sudden and tragic death of fellow Supervisor Dr. Scott Seatonâs wife, Anne.

STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) - Staunton is celebrating its 25th year as a âTree Cityâ. To commemorate the occasion, and just in time for Arbor Day, theyâve rolled out an interactive tree tour.
The Great Gypsy Hill Tree Traipse is a new walking tour of Gypsy Hill Park featuring some of the parkâs more prominent trees.
Right at the entrance, thereâs a 130-year old green ash tree.

STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) - People were back Thursday night in Staunton protesting City Councilâs decision to end the ability to Zoom into meetings and with it the publicâs ability to call in and speak.
They say the elderly, disabled, parents with young children, and others are being silenced during the pandemic, and they feel strongly that elected officials need to hear from the public.

STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) - A group in Staunton is protesting City Councilâs recent decision to end virtual meetings. It means everyone has to come to City Hall to participate in meetings, ending the publicâs ability to phone in.
Staunton Council first allowed virtual participation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In a 4-3 vote, they ended it at their most recent meeting.

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Augusta County leaders are considering higher personal property taxes to pay for raises and new positions.
The Board of Supervisors is proposing a $0.10 hike to taxes on vehicles, campers, boats, trailers, and planes. The money would help fund a 3% employee raise, 15 new firefighters, and an information technology technician. The budget also includes a new career development program for fire and rescue, and for the first time, a 5-year financial analysis.
