WAYNESBORO, Va. (WVIR) - The housing market in Waynesboro is booming, even during a pandemic. Waynesboroâs Deputy City Manager Jim Shaw says they havenât seen numbers like this since before the 2008 recession.
âWaynesboroâs impressive,â said Karen Carpenter, president of the Greater Augusta Association of Realtors.
Waynesboro was tracking 30-40 building permits a year for residential units. âThen we had a real jump in 2019 to more than 200 units,â stated Jim Shaw, Waynesboroâs deputy city manager.

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The Augusta County Planning Commission voted unanimously to rezone almost fourteen acres of the Staunton Mall property from general business to multi-family residential, but not before hearing from the public.
The new owner of the Staunton Mall, Staunton EM 2 LLC, has plans to repurpose the property in favor of mixed-use development. This rezoning puts it one step closer.
Staunton EM 2 LLC aims to use 13.8 acres on the backside of the mall property for multi-family residential.

FISHERSVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A woman in Fishersville, Va., is hitting a remarkable milestone. But itâs happening without the ones she loves most by her side.
Eva Furr is having a different kind of birthday celebration, and her family is doing what they can to make her feel loved on her special day with a card shower, cake, and gifts handed off to staff, and window visits.
âShe used to say sheâd pray every day that she would live to be 100,â said Furrâs son Elwood Furr.
Just three weeks in, Staunton Schools’ Superintendent reported a successful start to the hybrid program Monday night during a school board meeting. Also, Staunton teachers have received their first round of the COVID-19 vaccine.
