Cops turn up at dead woman s house to find her alive

Compiled by CLARISSA CHUNG, C. ARUNO and R. ARAVINTHAN IN a bizarre turn of events, the police came a-calling at a house in Tanjung Minyak, Melaka, announcing that a woman living there had died – despite the fact that she was very much alive, Sin Chew Daily reported. It took place on Saturday when the “victim” was announced by the police to have “died” in a car accident, which caused her mother to burst into tears. In reality, 32-year-old Lin Shu Jin was very much alive and was a victim of identity theft. Since losing her MyKad in 2004, her name and identity card number had been used by someone who had given birth at a private hospital, purchased a car, taken out a loan and even peddled drugs.

Dark times for gambling dens as Melaka cops target their power supply

MELAKA: Melaka police sent a clear signal to the recalcitrant operators of six illegal online gambling outlets by cutting off their electricity supply and going after property owners who lease their premises for such activities. State CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman said the six operators had boldly resumed their illegal activity despite the action taken against them earlier. They were charged in court but they persisted in their activities without fear. These operators disregarded the law, but we will not let them go free, he said on Thursday (Feb 25). ACP Mohd Sukri said the operation against the gambling dens took place from 10am to 4pm on Thursday and involved officials from Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

Covid-19: Spike in cases in Melaka linked to Jasin prison

MELAKA: The unprecedented increase of 98 Covid-19 positive cases here are linked to a correctional facility in Jasin, says a state official. Melaka health and anti-drug committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the cases were detected on Thursday (Dec 17), with the majority linked to the prison cluster. The situation is under control, he said when asked about the sudden spike in cases in the state. Melaka has not seen such a high number of cases in a single day since March. The sharp rise has triggered speculations in social media platforms that this was due to an influx of tourists during last weekend.
