Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 5 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin met Tamil NaduGovernor Banwarilal Purohit on Wednesday to stake claim to form the government after his party s victory in the state assembly elections. MK Stalin, TR Baalu and Durai Murugan met the Governor and gave a resolution. The date of swearing-in will be decided by the Governor, DMK leader RS Bharathi had said.
Stalin was on Tuesday unanimously elected as legislature party leader.
DMK won 133 seats in the 234-member assembly.
The oath-taking ceremony will take place on May 7 at the Raj Bhavan. (ANI)

In the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, actor and leader of Makkal Needhi Maiam Kamal Haasan was defeated by BJP Mahila Morcha president Vanathi Srinivasan in Coimbatore South constituency.

CHENNAI: After decades of political work – as a party cadre, MLA, Mayor, and Minister – MK Stalin is now all set to take the reins of the State. The victory on Sunday is an answer to all his critics, who have questioned his leadership skills with regard to electoral politics.
Since the demise of his father, M Karunanidhi, Stalin has managed to win three consecutive elections to the Lok Sabha in 2019, local bodies in 2019, and this Assembly polls. A rare feat as he accomplished all this while being the Opposition leader.
In previous polls, the narrative mostly revolved around towering personalities like MGR, Karunanidhi and J Jayalalithaa. However, this time, both Stalin and Edappadi K Palaniswami needed to move beyond identity politics to score.
It pointed out that the Commission has already directed chief secretaries and state police chiefs to take penal action, including lodging of an FIR, against violators in all such cases under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and other relevant laws.
