Former Supreme Court judge Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar was sworn in as the Lokpal chairperson, filling a post vacant for nearly two years. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Justice Khanwilkar, 66, served on the Supreme Court from May 2016 to July 2022. Other appointments include Ritu Raj Awasthi, Lingappa Narayana Swamy, and Sanjay Yadav as judicial members. The Lokpal, without a regular chief since May 2022, now has its leadership restored.
Election Commissioner Of India Arun Goel resigned from his post just weeks ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. The resignationa comes as a surprise as the election commission is set to announce the daes for the general elections which are likely to be held in the month of April and May.
