The Court was hearing an original suit filed by the West Bengal government against the Central government on allegations that the Centre has been misusing the CBI.
The Supreme Court on Friday refused to lift the interim stay on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in connection with a corruption case.
The Central government told the Supreme Court that the West Bengal government cannot sue the Central government over cases being lodged and probed by the CBI as the central agency is independent.
The Court also asked the CBI to explain why the trial was getting delayed. The petitioner has alleged that the State regime in Andhra Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Reddy, was working to delay the case further.
