Springfield schools accept Beun resignation
The Suburbanite
SPRINGFIELD TWP. – The Springfield Local Schools Board of Education voted to accept the resignation of employee Brad Beun during an April 23 emergency meeting.
Beun was arrested by the FBI on April 17 and was immediately placed on paid administrative leave as is the district’s protocol. On April 20, the Board of Education voted to remove Beun from paid administrative leave.
The investigation is ongoing, and the district is cooperating with the authorities. The FBI has revealed allegations that were, according to the board and administration “deeply disturbing against Beun.” It is believed that Beun had arranged to meet an adult and an 8-year-old girl for the purposes of sexual activity but was instead arrested by FBI undercover agents. He has since been charged with coercion or enticement.
April 12 meeting
KEY ACTION Voted unanimously to hire
Ira Hamman as the district s new treasurer. Hamman s first day will be May 17.
DISCUSSION Hamman most recently worked as treasurer at Fremont City Schools. He replaces Molly Koch, who left in February.
Hamman did not appear at the meeting, though he is expected to be at the next one, along with interim Treasurer Christine Angerer.
Hamman s contract runs through July 31, 2024, board President Linda Fenn said.
Board member Bernadette Rohr thanked Fenn and Superintendent Todd Osborn for their work on the search. It was intense, Fenn acknowledged.
The board hired the Summit Educational Service Center to conduct the treasurer search. Ten people had applied for the position, which the ESC narrowed to seven, then down to three for board members to interview. Interviews took place April 1.
