Chippewa school board hires Ira Hamman as treasurer

April 12 meeting KEY ACTION  Voted unanimously to hire  Ira Hamman as the district s new treasurer. Hamman s first day will be May 17.  DISCUSSION Hamman most recently worked as treasurer at Fremont City Schools. He replaces Molly Koch, who left in February. Hamman did not appear at the meeting, though he is expected to be at the next one, along with interim Treasurer Christine Angerer. Hamman s contract runs through July 31, 2024, board President Linda Fenn said. Board member Bernadette Rohr thanked Fenn and Superintendent Todd Osborn for their work on the search. It was intense, Fenn acknowledged.  The board hired the Summit Educational Service Center to conduct the treasurer search. Ten people had applied for the position, which the ESC narrowed to seven, then down to three for board members to interview. Interviews took place April 1.

Chippewa school board to make big decisions on proposed facility project

The project has two main components, which are explained in a video posted on the district s website: a pre-K through sixth-grade building at the existing Chippewa Intermediate School and an auxiliary gymnasium at Chippewa JR/SR High School. Fenn briefly walked through a timeline of the district s history, highlighting recommendations from the state for renovations, levies that passed and failed and proposed projects through the years. This is not an overnight decision, she said. We ve been talking about getting down to two campuses. The state has been telling us for 20 years we need to address this issue. The board president reminded those tuning in that the online presentation is a rendering of a proposed presentation, not set in stone.  Members are collecting more on the district s history and will present that in a few weeks, she added.

Despite wary community, Chippewa BOE presses on with facility project

DISCUSSION  The board is moving ahead with the project, which has two main components, according to the half-hour-long video posted on the district s website: A pre-K through sixth-grade building at the existing Chippewa Intermediate School and an auxiliary gymnasium at Chippewa JR/SR High School. The project was based on needs the community has highlighted, along with problems at Hazel Harvey Elementary, such as asbestos and necessary replacements for windows, doors, lights and boilers, Superintendent Todd Osborn explains in the video. The district decided it was more cost-effective to move to two instructional buildings, rather than putting funds into the elementary. The auxiliary gym would be used to support athletic practices and youth sports programs and would provide varsity locker rooms.
