The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is pleased to announce Lori Ziehr as the Acting Ohio State Conservationist. Ziehr comes to Ohio from Texas where she serves as the Assistant State Conservationist (ASTC) for Programs. During her 23 years with NRCS, Ziehr has served in technical positions such as rangeland management specialist and agronomist, in addition to technology and leadership positions.
The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded ODA’s Division of Soil and Water Conservation a five-year, $8-million grant to assist in Ohio’s work to improve water quality in Lake Erie.
Administered by the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), the grant funding will support Governor Mike DeWine’s H2Ohio initiative by assisting farmers in developing nutrient management plans and conservation practices in Crawford, Erie, Huron, Marion, Ottawa, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, Shelby, and Wyandot counties.
Farmers in these counties can begin enrolling through their local soil & water district office in late summer.

DES MOINES, Iowa (April 28, 2021) – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and several public and private conservation partners announced a new water quality blitz project today. The project will add 40 saturated buffers and 11 bioreactors to farm fields in Polk and Dallas Counties to protect water quality and support recreational opportunities in the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers. The first phase of the project should be complete by mid-2022.
