Scientists gave 22 sets of twins different diets for 8 weeks to demonstrate the benefits of eating vegan versus eating a diet containing meat. Those who ate a vegan diet saw more significant decreases in their 'bad' cholesterol and fasting insulin levels than those who an omnivorous diet. They also lost an average of 4 pounds.
In a JAMA Network Open study, researchers found that an eight-week vegan diet intervention in adult identical twins led to significant improvements in cardiometabolic health, including reduced LDL cholesterol and fasting insulin levels, compared to an omnivorous diet.
In a study with 22 pairs of identical twins, Stanford Medicine researchers and their colleagues have found that a vegan diet improves cardiovascular health in as little as eight weeks.
