The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) started taking samples of spices in powder form of all brands, including MDH and Everest, from across the country in view of quality concerns flagged by Hong Kong and Singapore.

The FSSAI has found no trace of ethylene oxide, a known carcinogen, in spice samples from MDH and Everest. Samples were tested after quality concerns were raised by Hong Kong and Singapore.
About a third (32%) of retailers are limiting stocks of MDH and Everest branded packaged spices alleged to have contaminants exceeding permissible ethylene oxide levels, according to Kirana Club, which has 1.8 million kirana stores on its network.
