Speeds Reduced on Several New York Roads Due to Winter Storm
Slow down if you have to travel on snow covered roads. Speeds have been reduced on a number of highways throughout New York state as the winter storm continues to hammer the east coast.
Speeds have been reduced to 45 mph on I-87 between Exit 24 in Albany and the NYC line, as well as I-287, I-95, the Garden State Parkway and the Berkshire Spur. The speed on the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge has been reduced to 35 mph. Similar speed advisories of 45 mph are currently being employed on State Parkways, Route 17, I-84 and I-684.
With the winter weather adding plenty of snow to the roads in Central New York, state police are advising those who can stay home, to stay home.
The New York State Police will be out across the region checking all major routes of travel to ensure that motorists are as safe as possible. The State Police need your assistance to make this possible. They provided these simple requests this morning:
1) Motorists traveling in areas impacted by the snow are asked to leave with extra time to make a slow and careful drive to your destination.
2) Take into consideration snow accumulation on the roads, the current snowfall rate, the wind, and visibility.

Monday s nor easter continues to impact many parts of the Northeast. A winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday, with additional snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches in Otsego, Chenango, Madison and Southern Oneida counties, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
Plan for slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes.
Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. In Southern Herkimer County expect additional snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches.
The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. Tuesday for Madison, southern Oneida, Chenango, Otsego and southern Herkimer counties.
Stay Off Of Utica And Rome Roads If Possible

The
National Weather Service out of Binghamton issued a winter storm warning from Monday morning (10AM) through Tuesday evening (7PM) for many counties across the region, including Madison, Southern Oneida, Chenango and Otsego counties.
These counties can expect between six to twelve inches of snow over the course of the two days, starting light, in some locations and turning heavy with 1-2 inches per hour Monday through Tuesday with areas of blowing snow.
This will be a long duration event. Occasional light snow falls today, but then snow may become heavy at times late today through Tuesday with areas of blowing snow.
