Alcohol, speed believed to be factors in fatal Northern Michigan rollover crash, police say

KALKASKA COUNTY, MI – Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in a Northern Michigan rollover crash that killed one person and injured two others.
Haley Nicole Stangler, 21, of Kinglsey was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Ingersoll Road west of Creighton Road in Kalkaska County around 8:27 p.m. on Thursday.
According to the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office, Stangler was in a blue, 2009 Pontiac SUV traveling west on Ingersoll Road. The driver failed to control the vehicle upon reaching a curved portion of the roadway and the vehicle rolled several times, police said.
SUNFIELD TWP. – Police have released the name of the fisherman who fell through the ice on an Eaton County lake and died.
Jason Betts, 41, of South Boardman, was fishing on Tamarack Lake in Sunfield Township Monday afternoon when he fell through the ice, according to the Eaton County Sheriff s Office.
South Boardman is in northern Michigan, near Traverse City.
Rescuers were called to the lake at about 1:40 p.m. Monday after another person coming out to fish reported seeing Betts go through the ice, according to the sheriff s office. They were unable to rescue Betts because of poor ice conditions.

SUNFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI Police recovered the body of a 41-year-old man who died Monday after falling through the ice while fishing. According to the Associated Press, another fisher saw Jason Betts fall through the ice on Tamarock Lake in Sunfield Township and called for help.
Police rushed to the scene, according to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office and a dive team eventually recovered the body. The Lansing State Journal reports Betts was fishing by himself and is originally from South Boardman, Mich.
CADILLAC — A 28-year-old South Boardman man was charged with multiple counts of failing to pay child support during his recent arraignment in 84th District Court.
