news. within the past hour, authorities in stanislaus county have found the car that they believe contains the body of a missing 4-year-old boy and his abductor. sheriff s deputies and divers have been searching the canal for more than a week, this after a witness told them he saw a car go into the water. they say they saw something in sonar images and were able to see the car s license plate. we will not know what s in that car until we bring it out of the water. but again, everything that we know with respect to witness states, corroborating evidence, everything, tells us that that car went in the canal and that jose and juliani went with it. let s recap. authorities say that 4-year-old juliani cardenas was snatched from his grandmother s arms a week ago tuesday. the prime suspect in the case, jose rodriguez. he is the ex-boyfriend of juliani s mother. last week, a farm worker reported seeing a silver toyota corolla go into the canal matching a description that had been
anthony batts will stay in oakland for now. someone else was chosen for the san jose top cop job. anne makovec has the latest. good morning. reporter: the phrase at least for now is very important to point out because anthony batts, the police chief here in oakland, has said he is not sure about his future with the department. he has only so far served one year of a three-year contract he signed here in oakland and it was a real shocker to a lot of people a couple of weeks ago when he announced he was a finalist for the top cop job in san jose. then yesterday the statement came out that he did not get the job. san jose city managers said to have picked acting chief chris moore instead. the city council in san jose could aprove her choice as early as next week. so some people in oakland appear to be breathing a sigh of relief. here s the mayor s spokesman. i appreciate his leadership and commitment to community policing and to raising professional standards. i am optimisti
bridge? a final vote today could phase out human toll collectors. sonja shin has the story. reporter: good morning. tolltakers here at the golden gate bridge have been collecting tolls and greeting drivers since the bridge opened in 1937. but their days here may be numbered. yesterday, the golden gate bridge finance committee voted 8-3 to get rid of human toll collectors. that could save $19 million over the first eight years. thigh boardthe board is meeting later this morning and may vote today to eliminate the jobs of 32 toll collectors and two other bridge workers. the toll collectors have maintained that they add a personal touch to crossing the san francisco landmark. we can t just be going over here and saying, well, yeah, 60% or something let s go 100%. forget about who is operating the thing. i mean, if you go to hawaii and say i m going to go on vacation, do you walk into a booth and say i m going to have a lea around my neck instead of a kiss and hug from a fema
