Daily Trust - Lawmaker sets up N120m foundation for constituents in Sokoto

Boza told newsmen in Sokoto on Wednesday that the money was specifically set aside for his four-year term, ranging from 11th June 2019, to 11th June 2023. The lawmaker, who explained that the foundation was being funded by him, said over N60milion had so far been spent under the foundation from 11th June 2019 till date. Boza enumerated some of the projects to include the rehabilitation of 49 boreholes and the sinking of six new ones in Sabon Birni town, Dantudu, ‘Yar Bulutu, Tsamaye, Katsira and Makuwana, among others. On health, the lawmaker disclosed that he gave out N 1million monthly for the treatment of indigent patients in hospitals across his constituency, including surgeries.

Sokoto gets World Bank $15m grant for financial propriety

Share The World Bank has granted Sokoto State government $15 million for its commitment to the implementation of the States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) program. The state government clinched the grant after its astronomical score in the SFTAS ranking from 2/5 in 2019 to 14/15 in 2020, which puts it among the top three states in the country to achieve such ranking. A statement signed by the special adviser on media and publicity to the governor, Muhammad Bello, said the state grant also earned $2.5 million grant from World Bank last year. Also in the period under review, the state government doubled its share of the federally collected PAYE tax and undertook a forensic audit of its pension benefits, thus establishing “a liability of over N800 million which is under verification and validation by the Pension Transition Arrangement Directorate (PTAD),” the report of the SFTAS Committee presented to Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal stated.

Assembly passes bill for regulation of private healthcare providers in Sokoto state

By Muhammad Bello Sokoto Dec. 23, 2020 The Sokoto State House of Assembly has passed a Bill for a law to regulate activities of private healthcare service providers in the state to ensure that they attain minimum standard. This followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Health, presented by the Chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Sarki (PDP-Sokoto North II) at Wednesday’s plenary in Sokoto. Alhaji Bello Ambarura, moved for the consideration the report. Deputy Speaker Abubakar Magaji who presided over the sitting, put the motion into a voice vote and it was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers. Also, the House passed a bill for a law to establish the State Medical Consumable Management Agency.

Tambuwal signs N176b appropriation bill into law

Punch Newspapers Sections Adeniyi Olugbemi, Sokoto Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Wednesday night signed into law the 2021 budget appropriation bill of over N176 billion. Speaking at the ceremony, Tambuwal expressed appreciation to the Speaker and members of the Sokoto State House of Assembly for the remarkable passage of the bill into law. He said, “The feat shows the commitment and patriotism of the state legislators in the discharge of their mandate to the people of Sokoto state. “You have properly demonstrated very uncommon patriotism devoid of partisanship.” He commended them for uniting for the common man in the state irrespective of political party differences, urging them to continue working together in the same direction.

A statement signed by his special adviser on media and publicity, Muhammad Bello, said the governor while signing the budget expressed appreciation to the Speaker and members of the Sokoto State House of Assembly (SOHA) for the passage of the bill into law. “He said the feat shows the commitment and patriotism of the state legislators in the discharge of their mandate to the people of Sokoto State.  You have properly demonstrated very uncommon patriotism devoid of partisanship.”
