Rohit Sood, the victim, said that he had applied for a job in Canada and other countries through websites during the lockdown. In September last year, a ‘Canada-based’ company, Skanska Engineering, rang him up with a job offer. It had been organised, the firm told him, by a placement company called Placement Seekers. “I had applied on many websites so they may have picked up my CV from there. A person who identified herself as Trisha Watson called me up in September 2020 and said she was a representative of the firm. They told me my CV had been shortlisted. After one round of a telephonic interview and another on Zoom, they offered me employment in Canada,” Sood told TOI.

He received a call from one Trisha Watson claiming to be a representative of a Canada-based firm. Based on the techie s complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act. Noida: A software professional, based in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida near Delhi, has registered a complaint with the local police, alleging that cyber crooks defrauded him of around Rs 9 lakh under the pretext of providing him employment in Canada.
