Vertex commences work on E-6B logistics task order - Air Warfare

Vertex Aerospace announced on 20 April that it has begun work on an $881.98 million contractor logistics support (CLS) task order from US Naval Air Systems Command, for supply chain management of the E-6B Mercury airborne command post and Take Charge and Move Out (TACAMO) mission.  Work includes furnishing and delivering material required to support organisational and depot-level maintenance and aircraft modifications. The contract performance period began on 1 February, and work is expected to be completed by 2027. Vertex is executing the CLS task order at Offutt AFB, Nebraska; Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland; Tinker AFB, Oklahoma; and Travis AFB, California.

The USN on 19 April commenced its first ever multi-domain exercise exploring manned and unmanned capabilities. Led by the Pacific Fleet and executed by the 3rd Fleet, Unmanned Integrated Battle Problem 21 (UxS IBP 21) ‘will generate warfighting advantages by integrating multi-domain manned and unmanned capabilities into the most challenging operational scenarios’, the USN stated. It added: ‘This exercise will directly inform warfighters, warfare centres and developers to further incorporate unmanned capabilities in day-to-day Fleet operations and battle plans.’

The US subsidiary of Elbit Systems on 20 April announced another order from the USMC under the Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggle (SBNVG) IDIQ contract. Elbit Systems of America will supply night-vision systems and ‘various spare components’ to the USMC under the latest $41 million order, with deliveries until March 2022. The USMC will receive high-performance, white phosphor image intensifier binoculars, modular uncooled thermal imaging sensors and common external power supplies.
