Fischer expands UltiMate connector range - Digital Battlespace

The global connectivity solution provider Fischer Connectors has extended its portfolio of ultra-ruggedised and harsh-environment connectors with two new products. Fischer UltiMate 80 is a ‘field-ready NATO STANAG 4695-compatible connector offering unparalleled functionality and ruggedness in comparison with similar harsh-environment quick-release connectors’, the company announced on 15 April. UltiMate 80 is a lightweight and IP68-sealed connectivity solution ‘for any harsh environment, especially for defense and security applications and soldier modernisation programmes’, Fischer Connectors added. The ruggedised design of UltiMate 80 is compliant with MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-202.

Rostec pushes BMD-4M and BTR-MDM onto the export stage - Land Warfare

Russian defence conglomerate Rostec noted on 15 April that its Rosoboronexport and NPO High-Precision Weapons companies are progressing efforts to promote the BMD-4M IFV and BTR-MDM APC as ‘the latest Russian armoured vehicles designed for the use of airborne forces’. NPO earlier informed state-run news agency TASS that its Kurganmashzavod subsidiary ‘has already created all technical documents for marketing both BMD-4M and BTR-MDM’ to export customers. NPO added: ‘We are already engaged in the promotion of both models together with Rosoboronexport… These vehicles are of great interest to countries that have airborne troops in their armed forces. BMD-4M and BTR-MDM will be used by special forces and police units in various regions of the world.’

Rheinmetall and L3Harris Technologies team up for OMFV proposal - Land Warfare

(Photo: Rheinmetall) ​Partners American Rheinmetall Vehicles and L3Harris Technologies aim jointly to develop the US Army’s new Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle. American Rheinmetall Vehicles – subsidiary of Rheinmetall - and L3Harris Technologies have signed a teaming agreement to develop a solution for the US Army s Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) requirement.  The OMFV will replace the Bradley IFV as part of the Army’s ‘Project Convergence’ modernisation strategy. American Rheinmetall Vehicles is offering the Rheinmetall Lynx as an option for OMFV that is low-risk and easily upgradable. According to Rheinmetall, Lynx is highly survivable, adaptable to diverse environments, agile and holds huge payload reserves.

Galvion delivers first Silent Watch packs for LAV 6 0 - Land Warfare

(Photo: GDLS-Canada) The 40Kwh Silent Watch system will provide power to run the mounted surveillance system on the LAV 6.0 vehicle in Canada. General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada (GDLS-Canada) has received its first Symbasys Swatpack modular batteries from Galvion for use in the LRSS reconnaissance and surveillance system aboard the future LAV 6.0 light armoured vehicle. Ten Swatpack lithium-ion 160Ah/4KWh battery modules comprise the Galvion Silent Watch solution in a custom-designed ballistic enclosure on the LAV 6.0 vehicle. LRSS on LAV 6.0 will replace 141 ageing Coyote LAVs, providing the Canadian Army with state-of-the-art technology for advanced target detection, recognition and identification.

Boeing releases Q1 delivery information - Defence Notes

Boeing on 13 April released data for its major military aircraft programme deliveries for Q1 2021. In the three months ended 31 March, the company delivered 24 new and remanufactured AH-64 Apache attack helicopters; six new and renewed CH-47 Chinook transport helicopters; three F-15 Eagle fighter aircraft; four F/A-18 multirole fighters; two KC-46 aerial refuelling aircraft; and three P-8 maritime patrol aircraft. While deliveries of new and modified Apaches and F-15s increased on a year-by-year basis in Q1 2021, fewer Chinooks, F/A-18s and KC-46s were delivered than in Q1 2020.
