TAMENGLONG: To mark the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation and pay homage to the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country s Independence, the 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 sectors AR/IGAR (East) celebrated Shaheed Diwas on Saturday. Remembering Mahatma Gandhi on this occasion who led the nation non violently to attain Independence and inspired numerous other movements for civil rights and freedom around the world, the Commandant led the public of Tamenglong to pay floral tributes to the Mahatma and other martyrs of the nation. The Central government has directed all state governments and union ministries to observe two minutes silence on January 30 in the memory of martyred freedom fighters. Mahatma Gandhi  
New Delhi: January 30 is observed as the Martyrs Day every year across the country to mark the death anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi or Bapu.
Martyrs Day or Shaheed Diwas also aims at paying respect to the freedom fighters who gave up their lives in the fight for India s independence.
This year, the Central government has directed all state governments and union ministries to observe two minutes silence on January 30 in the memory of martyred freedom fighters.
