A new, county-wide comprehensive plan is needed as none exists for the County. There is a “watershed” comprehensive plan for Shades Creek, which was prepared in 2008 with three (3) minor updates.
The intention in 2008 was to begin a County-wide comprehensive plan for all of Jefferson County, however, that did not materialize. The planning timeframe for the new county-wide comprehensive plan should be a 15 to 20-year planning horizon. Goals, objectives, and policies are needed in addition to a new Future Land Use map. Deliverables for the RFP must be completed prior to December 2022.

A lot of apartment residents at The Crescent at Lakeshore spent much of the day getting their home and belongings dried out after a major flood sent many running to higher ground.
Firefighters had to hand over life jackets and help residents here hop into a boat along with their pets and whatever they could carry to get to higher ground.

HOMEWOOD The Homewood Police Department is working to determine how a man found dead in Shades Creek died.
Joshua Chase Callender, 28, of Homewood, was first reported missing after he had not been seen since March 27, 2021.
Family members said he left his home with a family dog. The dog and a Callender’s backpack were found on April 6, in a local nature preserve.
The next day, the Homewood Police Department found Callender’s body floating in Shades Creek at an interstate 65 bridge support. The body was found during an organized search.
