After finishing fourth in the Class 4 girls discus throw as a freshman, Samuels tossed the disc 137 feet to finish second during Day 1 of the Class 4 track and field state championships at Adkins Stadium.

The Jefferson City track and field teams return 11 state qualifiers from last year’s boys and girls team and are looking to take another leap this year. The Jays and Lady Jays will take that first step at 4 p.m. today when they open the season in a triangular with Helias and Rolla at Adkins Stadium.
The Blair Oaks boys wrestling team is getting closer to full strength, and it showed Tuesday night. Blair Oaks won a pair of duals at Blair Oaks High School, defeating Capital City 57-20 and Jefferson City 41-24.
The Jefferson City Jays have been fortunate to have some strong senior classes in recent wrestling seasons, with many featuring four-year starters. This year will be a little different, with just two seniors among the 30-plus wrestlers.
