JEFFERSON CITY A week after winning their first game this season, the seventh-seeded Fulton Hornets fell 63-16 to the second-seeded Jefferson City Jays in the Class 4 District 5 opening round Friday at Adkins Stadium.
It was a business-like performance from the No. 2 seed Jefferson City Jays on Friday night against the No. 7 seed Fulton Hornets at Adkins Stadium.
The Jays scored touchdowns on eight of their nine first-half possessions to take a 57-8 lead into the locker room and ran away with a 63-16 victory in the first round of the Class 4 District 5 Tournament.
The Jefferson City Jays enter tonight’s regular-season finale against the Moberly Spartans sputtering of late on a two-game losing streak. But the Jays do not feel any added pressure as they prepare for tonight’s Homecoming matchup. “We are just looking to be our very best today, and hopefully that takes care of this week,” Jefferson City coach Damon Wells said. “They are all important to us. We face a pretty quality opponent, so it’s going to be a heck of a challenge.”
It’s a big game in deciding the Central Missouri Activities Conference champion. It definitely is for the city championship and the trophy that comes along with that. And it’s Jefferson City. “All focus and all eyes are on the biggest game of the year,” Helias coach Chris Hentges said as the Crusaders prepare to take on the Jefferson City Jays in a CMAC contest tonight at Ray Hentges Stadium.
