A shocking revelation in Levuka that quite a number of people’s knowledge of the draft Police Bill 2020 was derived from what they read in The Fiji Times.
This came to light at the inaugural face-to-face consultation on the proposed legislation in the Old Capital where participants expressed concern about how little they knew about the contents of the proposed Bill.

Mar 14, 2021 02:02:02 PM The Fiji Law Society is calling on the government not to restrict public consultation on the proposed Police Bill only to the rural, maritime regions. At least 11 locations have been identified for the first round of face-to-face public consultations on the proposed Police Bill. The consultations on the proposed Police Bill will start on Monday at the Lomaiviti Provincial Council Hall in Levuka from 12 pm to 4 pm. Other sessions will be held at Serua Provincial Council Hall, Sabeto Village, Keiyasi Village, Nacula Village, Ba Khatria Hall, and Vunimono Hall. Fiji Law Society president William Clarke said a proper consultation is needed as it would ensure citizens have an opportunity to make their submissions in person.

Eleven locations have been identified for the first round of face to face public consultations on the draft Police Bill.
It will start tomorrow at the Lomaiviti Provincial Council Hall in Levuka from 12pm to 4pm.
The first round of face to face public consultations will run from tomorrow till the 31st of this month.
Other sessions will be held at Serua Provincial Council Hall in Navua, Sabeto Village in Nadi, Keiyasi Village in Sigatoka, Nacula Village in Yasawa, Khatri Hall in Ba, Nadarivatu Village, Nalawa in Rakiraki and Vunimono Hall in Nausori.
