“We gathered all the information we had and were able to place him at an address and he was taken into custody without further incident,” he said.
“We thank the public for their assistance.”
Mr Rankin was due to reappear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He was charged with one count each of dangerous driving, evade police, fail to properly dispose of a needle and two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possess dangerous drugs and unlicensed driving.

Police are investigating after a man was allegedly assaulted in an attempted carjacking in North Rockhampton on Monday night.
A 23-year-old man had arrived home at an address in Bulman Street, Norman Gardens, about 7pm and was approached by two unknown males while perusing his phone before getting out of the vehicle.
One of the males allegedly had a piece of chain wrapped around his fist and demanded the victim’s vehicle.
A struggle ensued and the victim was allegedly assaulted.
The victim alerted people of the alleged incident by beeping his horn.
After a period, both offenders fled to an unknown location.

Rockhampton detectives have put out a public plea for Demi Warcon, 29 female, and Alex Rankine, 22 male, to hand themselves in as they are wanted on a number of alleged property, stolen vehicle, arson, evade police, and dangerous driving offences.
Ms Warcon is also being sought over her alleged involvement of an armed robbery at the Kalka Palms Hotel, Berserker, on May 17.
Police will allege Ms Warcon and a female associate used violence to take a large sum of money off an elderly man who had just won on the pokies.
Anyone who may know the whereabouts of either persons are also being urged to call Rockhampton police or Crime Stoppers.
