SCVNews com | Friday COVID-19 Roundup: SCV Cases Total 26,045; Nearly 2 Million Doses Administered in County

Los Angeles County Public Health officials on Friday confirmed 144 new deaths and 1,838 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, with 26,045 total cases in the Santa Clarita Valley. To date, Public Health identified 1,189,232 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 21,241 deaths. Over the last five days, the County has averaged 1,820 new cases a day. “Our hearts go out to the families and friends grieving the loss of a loved one to COVID-19. We are deeply sorry for your loss and wish you peace,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health. There are 1,886 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 30% of these people are in the ICU.

The Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles announced on Feb. 26 that Kenya Yarbrough will lead its newly-created and first-ever Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, Access, and Advocacy Initiative. The DEIA&A Initiative is designed to embrace the diversity of the largest girl-serving nonprofit in Los Angeles and champion the communities it serves. Under Yarbrough’s leadership, DEIA&A seeks to understand the complex and rich identities within the organization. By ensuring that GSGLA programs, policies, and organizational culture promote diversity and inclusion through equitable opportunities, collaborative relationships, and meaningful experiences, the initiative will foster empathetic leadership at all levels of the organization, and cultivate a council-wide environment of belonging for the diverse voices and perspectives of the greater Los Angeles community.

The Child and Family Center’s Domestic Violence Program is set to host its fourth annual “Night of Expression” art exhibit on Saturday, Feb. 27, in recognition of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. The event will showcase artwork and poetry from local students as they stand in solidarity with their peers against dating violence and advocate for healthy relationships. Residents are encouraged to tune in for an evening of awareness, art, poetry, empowerment and more. The exhibit will stream live at 7:00 p.m. on the Child and Family Center’s YouTube page. This event is open to the whole community and for all ages.

Henry Mayo encourages all Santa Clarita residents to make healthy food choices. National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign conducted every March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
