The Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) announced Thursday the upcoming launch of the Los Angeles Online Dispute Resolution (LA-ODR) program, in collaboration with the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County and its Dispute Resolution Program (DRP), and the Center for Conflict Resolution. The new innovative program will expand alternate dispute resolution methods to L.A. County court litigants through the use of technology, to better meet their needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Funded by DCBA and DRP, the LA-ODR program is designed to assist parties in resolving disputes intended for Small Claims court, while supporting social distancing practices. Eligible small claims litigants will be able to access the service immediately.

A former manager of the Valencia COVID-19 testing lab is being sued by the operator for breaching her contract after she accused the company of poor performance. PerkinElmer filed a lawsuit Monday against Mahnaz Salem, alleging that she “emailed herself PerkinElmer’s proprietary information in violation of her confidentiality agreement” and “accepted a job with a different competitor laboratory” just three days after she started working with PerkinElmer, according to the case. She left the company 24 days later in early February. Efforts to reach Salem for comment Thursday were unsuccessful. Three hundred sixty-six feature films are eligible for the 2020 Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday. To be eligible for consideration under rules provisions implemented for the 93rd Academy Awards year only, feature films may open in a commercial motion picture theater in at least one of six U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County; the city of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia, by Feb. 28, 2021, and complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue. Drive-in theaters open nightly are included as qualifying commercial venues in the above cities. Films intended for theatrical release but initially made available through commercial streaming, VOD service or other broadcast may qualify if the film is made available on the secure Academy Screening Room member site within 60 days of the stream
