Residents want heavy trucking restricted on Saugus streets

Heavy trucking on residential streets concerns Saugus selectmen

Wicked Local Margaret O’Neil Lankow is looking for the town to crack down on tractor-trailers that have been using local streets through Saugus Center and Cliftondale Square. Lankow said she began to notice an increase in 18-wheelers and 22-wheelers many months ago. On June 7, Lankow counted four tractor-trailers that drove through Saugus Center during one hour in the morning. Two weeks later, she spotted four tractor-trailers in the area of Main Street and Hamilton Street during a 20-minute stretch. Lankow appeared before the Board of Selectmen to voice her frustration as to why heavy trucks are allowed to rumble through residential streets.

Car parade celebrates Saugus High School Class of 2021

Wicked Local Residents lined the streets Tuesday to cheer on members of the Saugus High School Class of 2021 who drove past in a rolling car parade. More than 100 vehicles carrying graduating Saugus High School seniors set out from Blessed Sacrament Church and wound through Saugus Center before the procession concluded at the Saugus Middle-High School complex. Many teachers stood outside the Belmonte School and Middle-High School holding signs and offered words of encouragement to the students. Convertibles, Jeeps and SUVs were adorned with balloons and congratulatory messages to the Class of 2021. “Thanks for the ‘virtual’ memories” and “Good luck Sachems!” were a few of the inscriptions scrawled on the cars.

Saugus High School graduating seniors have names displayed on banners

Wicked Local All 173 members of the Saugus High School Class of 2021 can see their names and pictures on banners raised around town as a tribute to the graduating seniors. The School Department paid for the creation of the banners, which are spread throughout Saugus Center and Cliftondale Square. “These are our kids and we wanted to do something to show we appreciate them,” said School Committee Chairman Tom Whittredge. Department of Public Works employees Tim Wendell and Mike Dockery coordinated the effort to put up the banners. Last year, the Board of Selectmen and Town Manager Scott Crabtree provided banners featuring the names and photos of each Saugus High School student in the Class of 2020.
