Valleyview Towers issues go straight to premier

It was addressed to Premier Moe as well as ministers Lori Carr, Paul Merriman and Everett Hindley, and to a number of media organizations including the News-Optimist. The correspondence is the latest in a long-running letter-writing campaign by Valleyview Towers residents calling for changes to management at Battlefords Housing Authority over various security, crime, disorderly conduct and now smoking problems at the housing complex. In his letter to the premier dated June 11, Mills alleges a “deplorable lack of competent professional management and leadership that has overtaken the entire housing authority.” Mills stated the Valleyview Tower II building of 89 units now has more than 50 vacant suites and that a large number of the empty suites are currently not inhabitable.

Radville Housing Authority board members recognized for long service

Thue and Vandesype received a Certificate of Recognition from the Province of Saskatchewan and a Long-Service Lapel Pin from the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. Doreen Eagles, MLA for Estevan made the presentations. The volunteers were praised for the dedicated individuals that they are and thanked for the time they have willingly given to the community through their housing authority. Volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they just have the heart. Board members, friends and staff from the Ministry of Social Services were also in attendance to congratulate these volunteers. The Radville Housing Authority participates in a network of 276 housing authorities throughout Saskatchewan that are responsible for the management of social and affordable housing for seniors, families and persons with disabilities who are in need of suitable accommodation.
