Of 100, only 7 fully vaccinated in dist, 32 got first dose | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: With the threat of third Covid wave looming large and experts saying that vaccination will help residents tide over it, only seven out of 100 persons in the district have received the second dose of vaccine whereas more than 32 out of 100 persons have got the first dose, as per the latest report of the state government. Even as the number of persons getting the second dose is low, there are other districts in the state that have even worse rate than Ludhiana. As per the state government report on vaccination coverage, of the 100 persons in Ludhiana, 32.7 had got the first dose till Thursday evening. Ludhiana is at fifth position in Punjab so far. SAS Nagar has vaccinated 61.1 persons out of 100 with first dose, Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar 41.4 and 34, respectively. Mansa has the lowest of 14.1 jabbed with the first dose.

3 O2 plants at govt hosps to be ready in 10 days | Ludhiana News

Representative image LUDHIANA: Amid the possibility of third Covid wave, three oxygen plants at government hospitals are expected to be ready in next 10 days. The district administration has also got approval for two more oxygen plants. During the second surge, it was challenging for the administration to meet the oxygen demand. Raikot SDM Dr Himanshu Gupta, who is monitoring the setting up of oxygen plants in hospitals, said, “Three oxygen plants one each at Ludhiana civil hospital, Mother and Child Hospital (MCH), Vardhman, and sub-divisional hospital (SDH), Raikot are likely to be installed in 10 days. Two more oxygen plants have also been allotted for UCHC (community health centre) in Jawaddi and SDH, Khanna. We are hopeful of getting a plant allotted for government-operated Covid care centre at Rara Sahib through a donor.”

Weekly Covid casualty count falls to 6 | Ludhiana News

Data derived from the state media bulletin shows that six residents lost their lives from June 25 to July 1. In the preceding week (June 18 to 24), there were 11 casualties. The number of deaths between June 11 and 17 was 17; 41 between June 4 and 10; 68 from May 28 to June 3; 131 between May 21 and 27; and 151 from May 14 to 20. During the first peak, the highest casualty count was recorded in September last (over 100) and in the second peak, between May 7 and 13 (174). On the state chart of weekly Covid deaths, Ludhiana is eighth and shares the spot with SAS Nagar, Patiala and Ropar. Ferozepur is at the top with 13 fatalities, Bathinda is second (12) and Amritsar third. Pathankot and Fatehgarh Sahib have the lowest count of 2.

With O2 plants, paediatric care, city putting infra in place for third wave | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: The health authorities are trying to put in place required infrastructure in case the third wave of Covid hits the district. They are also focusing on paediatric care, as it was being said that the next wave may affect children more. District epidemiologist Dr Ramesh Bhagat said they were arranging adequate facilities before the probable third wave and they already have a system in place for sufficient beds (both for moderate L2 and severe L3 cases) and oxygen plants were being set up at various hospitals. “We had to close the L2 facility at Meritorious School as cases fell, but we can open it if there is a surge. We can have more than 200 beds there. Also, we can have 50 L2 beds at Jawaddi community health centre (CHC) and 100 L2 beds at Mother and Child Hospital (MCH), Vardhman. We can have 30 L2 beds at sub-divisional hospital (SDH) in Raikot and have sent a proposal for it, besides we can set up 30 beds at Samrala SDH, 30 L2 beds at Jagraon SDH, 50 at Covid care c
