Ludhiana: With the possibility of the third wave looming large, the immunization authorities are finding it difficult to vaccinate the 18-plus category persons due to erratic supply of vaccines.
The department officials said even as they have to inoculate around 25 to 26 lakh persons who are above 18 years of age, the immunisation authorities have undertaken 14,41,147 vaccinations, including first and second doses, till July 24. They said of these, 11,49,957 persons have received the first dose and 2,91,190 both.
On July 23, the health department had got a stock of 19,000 vaccines, which was utilised the next day. Now, the stock of 30,000 vaccines is expected to arrive on Thursday. So, it will be after four days that inoculation will restart in Ludhiana.
Ludhiana: The pace of Covid vaccination has taken a hit in the past three days as Ludhiana health department has run out of vaccine stock.
As a result, people who wish to get jabbed are waiting for the vaccines. On July 17, the health department vaccinated just 1,908 persons as it didn’t have adequate stock of vaccine.
The health officials said last stock of around 21,000 vaccines (Covishield) was received from the state health department on July 15 evening and same was used by the next day. They added that even as the immunization officials vaccinated lesser people on July 17, the authorities didn’t announce session sites for vaccination for July 18.
Ludhiana: With the threat of third Covid wave looming large and experts saying that vaccination will help residents tide over it, only seven out of 100 persons in the district have received the second dose of vaccine whereas more than 32 out of 100 persons have got the first dose, as per the latest report of the state government.
Even as the number of persons getting the second dose is low, there are other districts in the state that have even worse rate than Ludhiana.
As per the state government report on vaccination coverage, of the 100 persons in Ludhiana, 32.7 had got the first dose till Thursday evening. Ludhiana is at fifth position in Punjab so far. SAS Nagar has vaccinated 61.1 persons out of 100 with first dose, Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar 41.4 and 34, respectively. Mansa has the lowest of 14.1 jabbed with the first dose.

LUDHIANA: Even as the district administration had recently indicated that it wants to inoculate 33,000 people daily, it is challenging for it to arrange vaccines to meet the daily target.
Meanwhile, the health department authorities don’t have stock to vaccinate people on Monday.
The administration on June 21 had said it wants to inoculate 33,000 people daily and the deputy commissioner had asked the local body of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to give at least 100 more health teams to meet the next one-million target in one month before the expected third wave of Covid-19.
The data of the health department shows that on most days after the district administration’s announcement, the vaccination was below the desired number, except July 3, the mega vaccination camp day, when 82,677 persons were jabbed the highest in the state. The second highest number was recorded on July 7, when 24,977 persons were vaccinated, though lower than the target of
