the aftermath of the twister. jay gray is live near the hardest hit area on the search and rescue efforts. gene, thunderstorms throughout the day in moore and adding another hurdle they just don t need after the devastating tornado. evidence the power. it rips apart. as you can see the windows shattered. some spots in the roof off. cars in the lot, many ultimately lifted and thrown into the building on top of one another. just an example of how horrific the storm was. the scale of destruction was unbelievable. the scope of loss unbearable. a day later emergency teams in the strike zone are still in rescue and recovery mode. we want to make sure we have absolutely uncovered and looked in every single crevice there might be for anyone who might have been injured in the tornado itself and any storms. the massive ef-4 tornado packed winds pushing 200 miles an hour cutting a path a mile wide and almost 20 miles long across central oklahoma. all the glass breaking and thing
people injured. dozens are still hospitalized. residents are dealing with rain and hail. now more on this story. good morning, this what it looks like across much of moore, oklahoma, absolute devastation. everyone who lived in the homes fived but elsewhere, others were not so lucky. the monster twister tore a path of destruction 12 miles long flattening entire neighborhoods, destroying homes and leaving at least two dozen people dead. my god. the national weather service said an ef4 twister with winds up to 200 miles per hour touched down in moore, oklahoma. my god! it was dismissal time for the elementary zoom with students preparing to meet parents, clinging to each other for support in closets and bathrooms. when it passed, the elementary was wiped to the foundation but everyone there survived. we were using precautions and we moved to the boys and girls bathroom. elsewhere, children were dug from the rubble and carrying them to safety. moore resident rushe
aid to the hundreds in oklahoma displaced by the ef-4 at any time. good afternoon, i m frank mallicoat. i m michelle griego. we ll get back to that in a minute. but first breaking news on the super bowl bid. the big announcement came just a few minutes ago. super bowl l will be played here in the bay area in 2016. elissa harrington live at santa clara where a new stadium may have sealed the deal. take it away. reporter: so much excitement here at santa clara city hall. when the announcement was when the 49ers were announced, rally towels were waving and the mayor over there being swarmed by media. he said this is a great thing for the bay area because hosting super bowl l will bring in tens of millions of dollars and it s just so exciting for the whole region. watch the reaction of this crowd. we re looking at city staff and community members who came to a viewing party to watch the decision live. awarded to san francisco. super bowl bid, is sounding a cautious tone. we in san francisco need to keep our eyes on the prize. i would characterize what happened with the florida legislature as perhaps not a great thing for their effort, but really it doesn t materially affect what we have to do to try to convince the nfl to bring the super bowl to san francisco and to the entire bay area region. reporter: now, with the lack of action by the florida legislature today, just before the legislature adjourned what that means is that a public vote, a referendum on this effort to support dolphins stadium in florida, that vote in florida will now be canceled. so allen, just to be clear, miami will still be making a bid on may 21st when the nfl owners will meet to discuss where to award the bid. but the miami bid is a whole lot weaker now now that the legislature in miami killed the bill. they are asking for millions to renovate the stadium. they are going to be hard pressed to get it. it would be the
