KLCI reverses loss, but gains seen capped as regional sentiment stays lacklustre

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4): The main index of Bursa Malaysia reversed its earlier loss and climbed in the mid-morning today, but gains were seen capped against a backdrop of lacklustre regional markets. At 10am, the FBM KLCI had risen 1.61 points to 1,584.60. The index earlier slipped to a low of 1,581.36. Gainers led losers by 469 to 282, while 397 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 1.6 billion shares valued at RM884.42 million. The top gainers included Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, See Hup Consolidated Bhd, Kobay Technology Bhd, Genetec Technology Bhd, ViTrox Corp Bhd and Khind Holdings Bhd. The actively traded stocks included Luster Industries Bhd, KNM Group Bhd, Sanichi Technology Bhd, Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX), AbleGroup Bhd, Iris Corp Bhd and PA Resources Bhd.

KLCI dips in line with regional markets as glove makers drag

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4): The main index of Bursa Malaysia reversed its gains and slipped before the midday break today, in line with weaker regional markets, as glove makers retreated. At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI had dropped four points to 1,578.99. The index earlier rose to a high of 1,586.55. Gainers edged losers by 379 to 345, while 714 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 4.05 billion shares valued at RM2.17 billion. The decliners included Top Glove Corp Bhd, Frontken Corp Bhd, Pentamaster Corp Bhd, Mi Technovation Bhd, Dufu Technology Corp Bhd, Supermax Corp Bhd, Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd, AEON Credit Service (M) Bhd and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK).

Insider Moves: Acoustech Bhd, CN Asia Corp Bhd, Titijaya Land Bhd, Top Glove Corp Bhd, Acme Holdings Bhd, BCM Alliance Bhd

BETWEEN Jan 5 and 8, notable filings of companies listed on Bursa Malaysia included one by Acoustech Bhd, where Yee Wei Meng emerged as a substantial shareholder after acquiring 30.99 million shares, or an 11.6% stake, via a private placement. A property developer, Acoustech posted a net loss of RM5.92 million in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2020, on the back of a steep contraction in revenue to RM458,000. In the previous corresponding period, it made a profit of RM26,000 from revenue of RM4.39 million. At CN Asia Corp Bhd, Ho Cheng San disposed of 16.4 million shares during the period under review. Filings with Bursa reveal that he had disposed of 14.33 million shares via a direct business transaction and 2.07 million shares on the open market. Post-disposal, he is left with a 1.26% direct stake in the company.

BlackRock, which holds a 1.61% stake in Top Glove Corp Bhd, voted against the election of six independent directors at the rubber glove maker s annual general meeting today, as it is of the view that the board had failed in its duty to mitigate the issues of migrant workers health and safety. The six independent directors are Datuk Lim Han Boon, Datuk Noripah Kamso, Datuk Norma Mansor, Tan Sri Rainer Althoff, Sharmila Sekarajasekaran and Lim Andy.
