Local leaders optimistic about making vaccines available to all adults by May
ROCKFORD (WREX) With President Biden s announcement that all adults be available for a COVID-19 vaccine by May 1, we asked local health department leaders if they thought that was feasible.
Winnebago County Public Health Administrator Dr. Sandra Martell said the date acts as a target for her and other health leaders across the country.
She added that this doesn t mean that all Phase 1B or even all Phase 1A will be completely vaccinated by the time May rolls around. Rather this is a chance for her department to prep and communicate with the state and federal government as vaccine supplies slowly continue to rise.
IL National Guard to Man Mass COVID Vaccine Site in Rockford
For those that really want to get the COVID-19 vaccine, the waiting-for-eligibility game is torture. So many people have been missing out on so much life thanks to this pandemic, and to many the vaccine is their get-out-quarantine-jail card.
I truly believe Winnebago County has been doing a great job administering vaccines as quickly as possible, but more man power means more shots given, so the Illinois National Guard is coming to help Rockford.

mystateline.com, Dr. Sandra Martell of the Winnebago County Health Department announced in a press conference yesterday that a mass COVID-19 vaccination site is being set up at the former K-Mart location on Sandy Hollow Road, and that it will be manned by members of the IL National Guard. Dr. Martell said;

Groton An accident involving a school bus and two cars took place in the area of Allyn Street and Sandy Hollow Road on Tuesday morning.
One of the drivers was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
A Wednesday news release from Groton Town Police Department said that Carlos Suc-Osorio of New London, the person who was transported to the hospital, was driving south in a 2001 Honda Civic on Allyn Street north of the Sandy Hollow Road intersection.
A First Student School Bus, with Tammy Christina of Mystic driving and six students on board, also was traveling south behind the Honda Civic en route to the Groton Middle School, the release read. A third vehicle, a 2014 Ford Focus driven by Kevin Kircher of Mystic, was traveling north on Allyn Street approaching Sandy Hollow Road.
