The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP) published a public notification on Saturday urging the public to participate in the survey and identification of stormwater drain encroachments. The Karnataka High Court, vide WP case no. 38401/2014, directed the Palike to identify and complete the survey of all encroachments within the time frame of 10 days.
The letter sent to the Railway Minister and Chief Secretary of the state has underlined that while the much-delayed and much-needed infrastructure project was sanctioned in October 2020 by the Centre, on-ground work started only in December 2022, and it is still moving at a snail’s pace.
The issue was once again in the spotlight after a video of a school bus driver traversing on the wrong side of the Bengaluru-Mysure Expressway went viral on Thursday. Police have arrested the driver after the video was seen and ADGP Alok Kumar ordered the police to take immediate action against him. It is known that the Kumbalgodu police conducted a search and finally arrested the school bus driver and took the bus into custody.
“All pedestrian walks are taken over by the contractor, and a concrete shed has been created. Although it is a busy stretch, residents have no other option but to stand on the road and board their buses. An accident is waiting to happen at this spot,” said Nirmala, a regular commuter who uses the bus stop daily.
