Rancho feeding corporation recalled more than 8 Million Pounds of beef. At that time there were allegations that the plant had improperly processed cows that had eye cancer. According to the indictment released today, one of the owners ordered employees to carve usdacondemned stamps out of the cattles carcasses. The animals that failed inspection were then processed and distributed for human consumption. In addition the heads from cancereyed cows were chopped up, thrown away, and employees placed the heads from apparently healthy cows next to the cancer eye cow carcasses. The indictment says the switch and slaughter of uninspected cancereyed cows occurred during the inspectors lunch breaks when the plant was supposed to be shut down. Police were taking protesters into custody right there, and several dozen people arrested tonight. Most of the people will be charged with vandalism and failure to disperse. The biggest disruption today is when protests blocked the tube leading from oakland into alameda, and the whole foods that opened was vandalized. Protesters lighting american flags on fire.
