Turned into a quiet night on oakland street. A marked difference from protests this week.  tonights protest started peacefully with police keeping an eye on the crowds. Police were taking protesters into custody right there, and several dozen people arrested tonight. Most of the people will be charged with vandalism and failure to disperse. The biggest disruption today is when protests blocked the tube leading from oakland into alameda, and the whole foods that opened was vandalized. Protesters lighting american flags on fire. This was at harrison and 24th in oakland. You can see the large crowd gathering around the flag. Hundreds of protesters took over San Franciscos Civic Center Plaza tonight. Police corralled demonstrators and kept them from heading downside streets, and they warned any vandalism would cause arrests. Look at the time lapse video from new york city. Police chief says between 25,000 and 30,000 took to the streets, and the biggest protest in the city. It stretched more than 20 blocks. The protests even closed down the Brooklyn Bridge tonight. Thousands of people blocked traffic in both directions for an hour. Two lieutenanted were knocked down to the ground and kicked. They were trying to make an arrest after a protester tried to throw a garbage can at police. A large turnout also in washington, d. C. Where demonstrators marched to the capitol. Thousands took part to demand changes and justice for the most recent unarmed black man killed at the hands of police. Al sharpton explains why he believes everybody should be involved in the march. This is not a black march or white march. This is an american march. Overall, police say the march was mostly calm and peaceful and no reports of arrests or any damage. More details on the grand jury process that instigated the protest. One says the country should get rid of grand jurys altogether. The grand jury has become agoto process for district attorneys that dont want to go after police officers. The preliminary hearing process is a better option, and its over seen by a judge and prosecutors are not involved. Residents that had to evacuate two mobile home parks are back home tonight, and the water was pumped out and they are drying out after the storm. They are off the 101 and nbc bay areas Christie Smith is live there. How does it look to you . Reporter some residents say they have to put in new floors or rugs, and you can see that water that was here is gone tonight, and tonight those affected did their best to dry out. These are all my towels. These are all my boots. I got towels there that are soaking wet. I cant save them. Reporter her items outside and in her storage locker were damaged in the waters from thursdays powerful storm. Her home is all right, but not her car. And the water got in the engine. I dont have money to get a car. Reporter she lives in redwood city where authorities tagged home in privately owned mobile parks and there was concerned that the standing water could be contaminated with sewage, and some found water had leaked into their units. A lot of these people, they lost a lot of stuff, and they cant they dont have money to repair the things, and buy new stuff. So we need to do something and it needs to be done soon. Reporter while many trailers and mobile homes were dry, some were frustrated and they said the park has a history of drainage issue and the area behind them does flood during big storms. Something has to be done. Reporter residents are being told to follow county Health Guidelines in terms of their own cleanup, and one manager says at least at this location they do have pumps on site but they will bring in another one in advance in the next rounds of rain. One meteorologist made the calculation by figuring out the average amount of rain that fell per square mile, and then came up with ten trillion, and a lot of math to figure out that california was pummeled with the rain, and i could have told him that. You can see the rain, almost a foot of rain in san jose, and you see the numbers there from north to south, and numbers in the four, five and sixinch range, and some places picking the average Monthly Average rainfall for december in 36 hours. With the storms coming in we are not expecting quite as much rain, and we see another chance of rain going into the next storm. Parts of the bay area, 267 of average. And it could go up to 300 average. And then we will see a cool day tomorrow with high clouds increasing out ahead of this weather system that the computer models now that just updated two hours ago are packing a little more rain with the system, and one thing we didnt see last week, lowering snow selv levels thats good news for the sierra snow pack. The fight over lighting up is smoldering in palo alto as the city considers creating an even more restrictive smoking ban. Marianne is live with the details. Reporter what is yao tphaep unique about the ordinance is that it would apply to those that smoke ecigarettes. On monday the city council will decide whether to extend its existing smoking ordinance to include all commercial areas, and that includes dining areas and stanford shopping center. I think it will make it easier and its a lot cleaner downtown and on california street right now. Reporter some question whether the proposed ban is too strict. I think its too much. A little overkill, and if people want to enjoy a cigarette, let they will enjoy a cigarette. Reporter some people say its warranted. I think this ban is the correct move. Anothers right to smoke stops up my lungs and mouth and hers as well. Reporter another controversial aspect of the ban, it would include those that smoke ecigarettes. Restaurant workers at san franciscos International Airport back behind the grill tonight ending a twoday strike. Strike organizers hope the walkout will help officials to come to an agreement with the workers. They are set to meet on monday. Shut down averted. The fight over the Government Spending bill ended quickly in the senate tonight. They passed the more than 1 trillion package. The vote came after ted cruz was overruled. The leaders were not expecting a final vote until monday and the spending bill is headed to the white house for president obamas signature. And then after cleaning up from the rains, the monster storm was one for the history books that included this, a rare tornado. It touched down not far from downtown l. A. This was crazy. It happened yesterday morning. And the meteorologist predetected a slight chance of the tornado, the ef0 tornado caught a lot of people off guard. I heard this sound. Boom and it went dark in the house. This is from l. A. In the meantime, the homeowners who could begin digging out from the mud and rocks, and many homeowners have been told it will be a while before they return. I think what we just heard, when meteorologists speak, it doesnt hurt to listen. Rob mayeda, what is going on locally that we need to know about. The california state has a few tornados a year, and a few days during the year the coastal areas will have a marginal chance of seeing tornados, and thursday into friday was one of the time periods and you saw what happened in southern california, and we do have a chance of thunderstorms coming up in the 7day forecast here again in the bay area, but not tonight. 40s and 50s. Chilly and fog will be the main thing to watch headed to tomorrow morning. And if all the recent rain and light winds, its a good recipe for finding the radiation fog, and some may drift in from the Central Valley from east to west overnight. Thats what we are watching for, and the only showers we might see tonight are the meteor showers. If you look off to the east, maybe around midnight you might see a few streaks of light across the sky, but in addition to the fog that could cause a problem or two, we have high clouds spilling over the bay area right now, and so overcast skies. The fridge of this storm will push through and increase the chance of rain as we head into tomorrow night and monday. So dense fog forming in spots. We will see chilly temperatures head into tomorrow morning with 30s and 40s, and as the fog begins to lift we will see increasing clouds which will keep our temperatures cool during the day, and thats the big story in the next seven days, you see the forecast at the bottom of the screen, high temperatures will only be in the 50s for the better part of the week. And so close to 60 in san jose,and upper 50s near san francisco, and north bay temperatures in the mid to upper 50s and mostly cloudy skies, and the rain will start to make a comeback. During the day tomorrow, might see a few sprinkles early in the morning, and by 10 30 and 11 00, seeing the rain push back through the bay area, and theres rain around san francisco, and around 2 00, notice the focus of the rain shifting further to the south. Santa cruz mountains could get a good pounding from the storm, and you see the rainfall projection through 11 00 tomorrow, and nothing too significant there. Monday evening, most of the bay area, seeing an inch of rain out of the system. And by the time we get from sunday into tuesday now, getting close to an inch and a half of rain and possibly closer to two to three inches of rain around the Santa Cruz Mountains as we approach the week, and then its a colder pattern, and storms coming in towards the end of the week will help to drop the snow selves down close to 30,000 feet. And showers into tuesday and wednesday. And then thursday the driest day of the week, with the highs in the 50s which if you bring this all to the sierra, we will see snow at lower elevations, close to 5,000 and then 3,000 by early saturday.
