AT&T seeks to add small cell tech to Burlington Mall Road light pole

Wicked Local A proposal by AT&T to convert a light pole at a busy intersection to a small cell wireless installation drew some concern and questions at a public hearing Monday, March 8. The AT&T team is seeking to replace the light pole at 44 Burlington Mall Road, at the Lahey Hospital intersection, with signal-boosting technology known as “small cell, in order to provide 5G wireless service, according to representative Edward Pare. Pare said the plan is to replace the pole with one containing small cell equipment, as well as the light fixture. The new pole would be “a bit lower” than the existing light pole, although Pare said they would try to match the height of other poles along the median strip, to achieve consistency with the height of light.  The equipment inside the pole would include antennae, fiber optic cables, remote radios and other associated equipment.
