The country that gave us hot rods and hula hoops has a new fad, skateboards. It looks like some inventor combined skating and skiing. Skateboarding started off as just another toy. What made it into big business was the discovery of a new type of plastic that allowed the skateboards to go faster and maneuver more easily. That is when the wheels really began to roll. With the speed and flexibility of new wheels, every child began to act as if walking was obsolete. The dangers of skateboarding on city streets brought about dozens of skateboard parks where Safety Equipment can be rented. Like a ski slope, there are runs for beginners and half pipes for advanced. And bowls for variety. As in competition, there is freestyle where you invent your own trick. In just a few years, these youngsters have raised the pasttime to the level of professional sport. Business owners who are frustrated. Reporter plywood is going up outside marks paint mart on telegraph avenue where six win des were smashed friday night by vandals. Makes no sense. Reporter his familyowned business started in 1973, has never been targeted. Were just back open and getting busy again, and now this happens. It just, it makes no sense. They were scraping paint off the floor after vandals broke in, dumping paint inside the store and out.
