The street, sidewalk, broke all our glass, and then paint everywhere inside. Destroyed. I know there is a lot of anger, and, you know, its sort of a perfect storm right now. So its understandable. And forgivable. Neighbors emily and james chen were helping clean up the damage. Especially if you support like whats happening, right . Like the movement in the country and black lives matter. Especially if you support that and youre impacted in this way, i think thats really tough. The cleanup here on telegraph avenue could take days. One open City Council Man tells us he has toured the damage, calls it unnecessary and counterproductive. It does not help the cause at all. It actually distracts from the cause, and it arms our local businesses. Police are investigating. Meantime, the big cleanup goes on. In oakland, cornell bernard, abc7 news. Meantime, thousands turned out for a black lives matter rally in the east bay today. No justice. No peace no racists. No peace. No justice, no peace. No racist. Police. A coalition of labor and Community Leaders joined forces to march from oaklands Rockridge Bart station to berkeleys sproule plaza. The local 1021 organized the eve event. Protesters chanted the names of people recently killed by Police Including Breonna Taylor and george floyd. We appreciate our obligation to the Greater Community and people on earth to make sure that whats going on in this country stops yesterday. George floyd was the last one. Union leaders presented a list of demands to Police Departments around the bay area. They are calling on them to be more civilized and to redirect funding to community and social services. People marched today in San Francisco during an event called bay area blackout. It began with a peaceful rally at 3 00 p. M. At mission high school. The group then marched to city hall. Organizers called on students. Educators and Community Leaders to join neighbors in the march. All were encouraged to wear black. This is one of four organized events today in San Francisco in support of social justice. Well, happening right now, the pressure is growing from Vallejo Police to release video of a deadly shooting at the hands of their officers. Hundreds of people turned out for a rally that is under way right now. When the officers offend the community, there should be consequences and repercussions. The rally comes after the death of 22yearold shawn monterrosa of San Francisco. A Vallejo Police officer shot and killed him earlier this month outside a looting scene at a walgreens. Police chief says monterrosa had dropped to his knees and put his hands up, but had a hammer his waistband that an officer mistook for a gun. Now civil rights attorney john burress is demanding police show us the video. The public has a right to know. But more importantly, the families have a right to know, because theyre the ones that suffer. The rally will continue with a vigil from monterrosa at 7 00 p. M. In front of the walgreens where he was killed. The family of george floyd is planning to file a lawsuit against the four Minneapolis Police officers who were there when he died. A lawyer representing the family made the comment when asked about officer Derek Chauvins receiving pension benefits. He is the officer seen kneeling on floyds neck and faces a seconddegree murder charge. He reportedly could receive more than a Million Dollars in benefit, even if he is convicted. Atlantas police chief has resigned one day after a black man w fally shoolic officeat a wendys drivethrough. The citys mayor also announced the officer that killed the man has been fired. The hooting happened during a confrontation where video shows the suspect appearing to grab an officers taser, run, and fire it. Police then shoot him. The mayor says she believes this was an unnecessary use of deadly force. Afternoon. People will have a lot more options in San Francisco for instore shopping starting monday. Westfield San Francisco center on fifth and Market Street announced it is reopening this monday. Masks are required at all times. The mall will limit capacity and have crews clean more frequently. Shoppers will also notice Hand Sanitizer and hand washing stations. The chronicle reports that stonestown galleria will also reopen on monday. Well, santa rosa is taking an aggressive approach to reopening restaurants and bars. Starting on june 26th, it plans to shut down a threeblock stretch of Fourth Street in the downtown area. This will give pedestrians and customers more room and allow businesses to set up sidewalk and curbside seating. Closure is expected to run through october 15th. Leaders in San Mateo County are pushing for a faster reopening in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Supervisor david canepa is leading the charge, petitioning Governor Newsom for a health order variance that would put San Mateo County in line with much of california that has moved into phase 3 of reopening. San mateo is one of the first counties to implement shelterinplace orders in march. Canepa says residents have their changed behaviors. Theyve changed those behaviors and now theyre ready to bring back the economy, especially restaurants. We have to make sure that our restaurants, they survive. We know that the revenue of restaurants ar if they dont dine out, they will die out. Now if Governor Newsom gives San Mateo County the green light, restaurants could reopen for Indoor Dining and so could hair salons, movie theaters, and gyms. Dentists in the east bay are getting help with Safety Equipment as they head back to work. The Alameda County dental society is distributing thousands of items of personal protective equipment. Today they gave out masks, gloves, gowns, and face shields to dentists in san leandro. The ppe was donated by the Alameda County office of Emergency Services and fema. One dentist told us why this is so key to everyones safety. Were 14 inches away from a patient. And that is our normal working space. So we get a lot of stuff that can come off a patient and a lot of stuff can get on to a patient. So weve got to make sure that we keep everybody safe and healthy. The Transit Agency shared this time lapse video of a train making the run today. Bart first started running in 1972. Then in 1989, there was push to extend the rail system to the south bay. Voters approved funding the project in 2000, and a couple of tax measures have been passed since then to bring the system to san jose. Now here are the two new stations that are Offering Service now. This is the milpitas station. It is off montague expressway and a couple of blocks from interstate 680. And this is the berryessa station in san jose. It is on berryessa road, just about halfway between interstate 680 and highway 101. The next phase of the bart extension is expected to start in 2022. All right. June gloom has really not been a thing this month. And well find that really the next seven day, sunshine is going to dominate the forecast. On live doppler 7, most of us are seeing sunny skies where we live. However, in the north bay, were seeing an increase in cloud cover from santa rosa to cloverdale to ukiah. An area of low pressure is just going to scoot by the coast overnight tonight. It will bring increased cloud cover across much of the region, even the chance of a little bit of light drizzle while many of us are sleeping. But right now the picture from our san jose camera in the south bay, its a really pretty one. A lot of sunshine, blue skies. And it will remain pretty quiet in terms of the weather the next couple of hours in the south bay. Look at the sunset tracker. We are approaching some of our latest sunsets all year. Tonight the sun will go down at 8 33 in the evening. One week from today is actually the summer solstice, the official start of the Summer Season and when we do have our latest sunset at 8 35 in the evening.
