Murfreesboro man dies after paddling accident on Percy Priest Lake

A Saturday afternoon kayak trip turned deadly on Percy Priest Lake Saturday, April 24.
A group of three were paddling near the East Fork boat ramp on the East Fork of the Stones River in Rutherford County when one of the kayakers, Larry Basler, 60, of Murfreesboro, capsized and began calling for help.
Basler was rescued to the bank, by the other paddlers in the group, where CPR was administered. Rescue crews from Rutherford County Fire, EMS and Sheriff s Office responded with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
Basler was taken to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville and treated for his injuries. He did not recover and died Sunday evening.

Smoke alarms are installed for free, thanks to Murfreesboro’s involvement in the “Get Alarm Tennessee” program through the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Foulks confirmed that they will install a smoke detector in every bedroom at no charge.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) â Multiple fire crews worked together to extinguish a house fire in Rutherford County Friday afternoon.
Rutherford County Fire and Rescue (RCFR) was joined by the Christiana Volunteer Fire Department, Rutherford County EMS and the Rutherford County Sheriff s Office in their response to the fire on Delbridge Road around 4 p.m.
When the crews arrived, they found the home with heavy smoke and fire emanating from the back. Fire crews were met with poor visibility conditions, but did an excellent job locating the fire and containing it to the floor where it originated, said Lt. Andy Haston.
Rutherford County Fire and Rescue firefighters checked for occupants of a car found Monday morning at County Farm Road and Elam Road. The incident occured on the slab bridge that goes over the Stones River. Fortunately, no one was inside.While firefighters checked the car, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office deputies learned the driver was safe.The Sheriff's Office says, "Please do not drive through standing water on roads." .
