we don t want to go to war with russia inside russia and so there has been an ongoing conversation when it comes to this long range systems or planes as to what kind of settings they will be used in and so that is an ongoing conversation with the ukrainians and it is important for us to make sure that we are keeping the united states out of a direct conflict with russia while at the same time giving ukraine everything they need so there are certain things over the years, over the last year that zelenskyy has asked for that we have had questions about, in part that is because we are being very careful to make sure that this does not become a direct confrontation between the united states and russia, that is the right policy, for us the right policy for ukraine. do you support the provision that is newly-announced today, ground to air defense systems as admiral kirby was describing these are some of the most advanced weapons that we got
because times are tough. the economy is tough in the united states. it is even worse here. in the uk at the moment, the health care system is in crisis. hospital, nurses, ambulances on strike. had to bring in soldiers to operate ambulances today. the idea that they should just wrap up this war and get on with the. and it s really zelenskyy was dragging out on. something is fighting against. to sign a separate piece with russia that would be premature bad deal. came and showed this incredible solidarity and a bond with president biden. that report seemed genuine there was clearly a human connection between the two of
offensive weapons the patriots that we re going to be given to ukraine those are huge because they can shoot air war now he can shoot down a lot of these cruise missiles effectively they are some of the best military tools we have in the united states, but they want to use long range missiles to go into russia, to be more offensive, to take out tactical supplies there. so what i heard was, we need to keep fighting, we need to keeping aggressive this is not going to be a table for peace anytime soon. some people from the winter could be that time to launch the offensive, because frozen ground is easier to drive tanks on and muddy ground. there are other advantages beside obviously there s going to be some suffering and pain on the part of ukraine civilians, but technically, there is some talk that the winter could be weaponized by the ukrainians equally in terms of russian soldiers who did not want to be their last february, and last, march we re also going through this winter w
stayed united in support of ukraine but inside that chamber you could feel it and i hope the american people heard his thanks because this is not us supplying support this is the american taxpayers putting their hard earned dollars in defensive ukraine i was glad he was speaking directly to the american people tonight. when he s that towards the end of his, reach he wants to think every american family for the support that was as explicit as he could make it. let me ask you somebody who is very well versed in the real politics of this legislature of this congress, is presidential husky asking for anything that he won t get, that he can t get, that this congress would ministration can deliver? well i think we have been very clear about the lines we don t believe it would be wise for us to cross in the interest of protecting u.s. security one has been we are not putting american troops on the ground he said tonight he does not need that but we also have been clear that we do not want
you with us tonight, thank you. thank you very much. all right joining us now is connecticut senator chris murphy who just attended president zelenskyy s address to the meeting of congress, i should tell you senator murphy s all and the senate ukraine caucus. senator murphy, real pleasure to have you with us tonight, thank you. thanks for having me. what was it like in the room? i mean, absolutely electric. to watch vladimir zelenskyy up on that stage when the world community believed that ukraine would survive a matter of days upon the russian invasion to think about the pressure on him to flee to save his own life in the early days of the invasion it is just amazing to see what one person can do. leadership still matters in this world, and his example from the very beginning of this conflict is a big part of the reason why ukraine still stands today. i agree with admiral kirby, it was great to be in the chamber with democrats republicans fighting like cats and dogs on do
