ukraine. in support of ukraine s idea of a peace initiative. and perhaps in new york city. is that the sort of thing that if something like that were convened that might puncture some of the sort of success of russian messaging in your opinion capitals that you are describing? as the russians are saying they are blaming zelenskyy for the fact they were still going on. if the u.s., particularly if they did it in the united states work to convene something like that. might it make progress against something like you are describing? it would be difficult if it was convened in the united states. since according to vladimir putin, the united states and ukraine are working hand and hand. and i think that after today s display of unity, it would be hard to dispute that. but, have not seen any real attempts at diplomacy. and i think what you saw today from the united states, particularly from president biden who pressed this issue
he walked out of congress being applauded, carrying an american flag. i think that sums up right there. he came to the united states in the surprise visit. this was a president and he told us are ourselves, encouraged to leave as the russian star numbers. told by the united states, get out of town, do you need a plane you need arrived, we get your family out. he decided to stay. and now he has emerged as this historic figure. coming to the united states, almost a year on. saying that he is still there. don t forget, don t give up on us. because we aren t giving up on ourselves. so i think the symbolism of the trip was important. it showed confidence. that he was able to do this trip at all. in the early days of the, where
he would not have been able to do this. there was concern the russians would overrun the capitol at any moment. clearly he does not think the russians are going to storm into kyiv and take over. and set up a puppet government anytime soon. there was confidence in that. i think he felt this was important. it goes back to a conversation rachel you re having a few minutes ago. this idea, the false narrative that there was a great russian peace deal out there for the taking. and that is zelenskyy who is refusing. especially where i am in europe, that sentiment is growing. a sentiment, a message that the russians are deliberately putting out. i ve spoken to officials, that this is a point to make time and again. that putin wants a deal. ready to negotiate, no sign of that happening. no signs from the kremlin certainly or vladimir putin. but this is a line russian officials say. it s starting to trickle into the united states and here.
question, we obviously want to avoid a war with russia, and we do not want to see this war escalate any more than it already has. that is only not good for the ukrainian, people it is not good for our national security interest, those european partners and allies. what can you tell us about what president zelenskyy reference in his speech about a peace summit, or a peace initiative. we talked about ten points that ukraine is asking for and he said in his speech that president biden agrees with approach, can you tell us what he s talking about? he is talking about a proposal that he set forth to the g20, just about a month or so ago, it was endorsed by the which includes the united states, it s ten principles of what peace should look like in ukraine. it is not a peace plan necessarily, but a formula of principles around which a beast can be formed. obviously we want to see this war, and we don t want to see ukraine peaceful again, so we think those principles are
