A former municipal official in Florida who assured condo board members that their building was in very good shape three years before it collapsed has left his new job, a city spokesman said Wednesday.
Rosendo Ross Prieto is on a leave of absence from his temporary job with a contracting business that provides building services for the city of Doral, a city spokeswoman said in an email statement Wednesday. Doral is located about 20 miles (32 kilometers) west of Surfside, where the Champlain Towers South is located.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Rosendo âRossâ Prieto, a former Surfside building inspector, has been placed on a âleave of absenceâ from his current post as a building inspector in nearby Doral, Florida, according to a statement from the city of Doral.
The city said that their contracting partner, CAP Government, Inc., told officials on Monday that they have âassigned another employee to assists the City of Doral Building Department on a temporary basis.

SURFSIDE, Fla. – Six days after a condo building outside Miami collapsed, families of the 149 missing people are growing weary as they desperately wait for answers.
The death toll rose to 12, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said late Tuesday afternoon. Their relatives have been notified by authorities.
