President Biden supports investigation
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said President Joe Biden thinks an investigation should be launched into the Champlain Towers South collapse.
During a press briefing Monday, Psaki was asked whether Biden believed the federal government had a role to play in examining infrastructure failures that led to the tragedy.
“He does believe that there should be an investigation,” Psaki replied. “Certainly, we want to play any constructive role we can play with federal resources in getting to the bottom of it and preventing it from happening in the future.”
She said agents from federal agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Institutes of Standards and Technology, were deployed to Florida to help with these efforts.

SURFSIDE, Florida Questions mounted Monday about how a residential building in the Miami area could have collapsed so quickly and violently last week, as attention turned to a city official who deemed the tower in “very good shape,” despite a report pointing to structural issues three years ago.
Experts are looking at possible pre-existing critical flaws in the structure of the apartment tower in Surfside, near Miami Beach, which pancaked into a pile of smoking rubble in the early hours of Thursday. Some have focused on the building’s pool, where a Miami-area contractor said he spotted serious damage hours before the collapse.
Crews spend 5th day atop shaky pile of collapsed concrete
SURFSIDE, Fla. (AP) â Rescuers searching for a fifth day for survivors of a Florida condo building collapse used bucket brigades and heavy machinery Monday as they worked atop a precarious mound of pulverized concrete, twisted steel and the remnants of dozens of households.
Authorities said their efforts were still a search-and-rescue operation, but no one has been found alive since hours after the collapse on Thursday. Two more bodies were recovered Monday, bringing the confirmed death toll to 11. They were later identified as 50-year-old Frank Kleiman and 50-year-old Michael David Altman in a Miami-Dade Police news release that also named 52-year-old Marcus Joseph Guara as one of the bodies recovered on Saturday. More than 150 others are still missing in the community of Surfside, just outside Miami.
