A Philippines police chief has been sacked for claiming an air stewardess was gang-raped and murdered, but her family insist he was telling the truth.
Christine Dacera was found dead in a bathtub at the Garden City Grand Hotel in Makati, Philippines on New Year s Day.
Eleven men were provisionally charged with rape and murder of the 23-year-old PAL Express crew member after police investigations found injuries to her arms and legs and traces of sperm on her body.
But the charges were slapped down by prosecutors who said further investigations including a post-mortem revealed Dacera died from a brain aneurysm.

The Makati city prosecutor office has ordered the release of three men who were suspected to be connected with Christine Angela Dacera’s death case and the alleged gangrape. The 23-year-old flight attendant was found unconscious in the bathtub of a posh hotel. She had checked in with her friends to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The case has been referred back to the police for further investigation.
On Wednesday, Benedicto Malcontento, Prosecutor General mentioned in his statement “After a thorough evaluation of the facts and evidence presented during inquest proceedings, the Office of the City Prosecutor, Makati City resolved to refer the case for further investigation and to release the arrested persons from detention.”
