NSW, SA and Victoria have snagged the lion’s share of infrastructure spending in the latest federal budget.
As revealed in the 2021 budget, the government is committing an additional $15.2 billion to infrastructure projects over the next ten years. This will bump the total federal commitment to $110 billion, with the additional spending said to account for 30,000 new jobs over the decade.
At a federal level, both the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and Road Safety Program are being extended for another year at the cost of $1 billion each.

Federal Budget supports Tasmania’s recovery plan
Tasmania continues to benefit from the Liberal and Nationals Government’s record infrastructure investment, with funding for major new projects to be announced in this week’s 2021-22 Budget, securing Australia’s recovery.
Key projects to be funded include:
$80 million for the Tasmanian Roads Package – Bass Highway Safety and Freight Efficiency Upgrades Package – Future Priorities;
$48 million for the Algona Road Grade Separated Interchange and Duplication of the Kingston Bypass;
$44 million for the Rokeby Road – South Arm Road Upgrades;
$37.8 million for the Midland Highway Upgrade – Campbell Town North (Campbell Town to Epping Forest);

A 61-year-old man died when an early morning house fire broke out in the area, officials said.
First responders in Dutchess County were dispatched to a Red Hook home on Rokeby Road at approximately 6:47 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, where there was a report of a fire that had spread in a home, trapping a man inside.
Upon arrival, first responders from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make their way into the residence, though they were rebuffed by the flames and smoke.
Once firefighters arrived, they were able to get inside the home, where they found a resident, John G. Boles IV dead inside the Red Hook residence.
