Happy Monday, Illinois. We re at the two-week countdown mark for state lawmakers to wrap up the budget and hundreds of other bills. Word of the week: busy.
TOP TALKER
Tension is building in Springfield as state lawmakers zero in on how to redraw congressional and state legislative districts. And when we say “lawmakers,” we mean Democrats. Republicans have so far been iced out of the room where it’s all happening though there might be a reveal sometime this week.

Republicans, including State Sen. Jason Barickman and State Rep. Dan Brady, agreed that the party needs to unify ahead of 2022.
When Former Gov. Jim Edgar was asked about prospective candidates, Barickman’s name came up when talking about the run for Governor, along with his name was U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis’ name.
Barickman said he whole-heartedly disagrees with Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s approach. Barickman told Cities he plans to make a solid decision on his run later this summer.
“I think I could win. I think Pritzker is very vulnerable. The guy has never been judged on his own record, and his record is a disaster,” said Barickman. “The guy is drunk with power. Republicans have to put up a candidate that could win.”
